The most important buildings left from Şirince’s Greek era are its two churches. Both date from the 19th century and carry the village’s multicultural past into the present.

Church of St John the Baptist

On the slope just above the village centre, the church is one of Şirince’s landmarks thanks to its stone façade and its view over the village. A short climb from the bazaar leads to it; from its yard you see the rooftops and the valley.

Church of St Demetrius

The village’s second church reflects the architecture of the same period. Its surroundings are among the parts of the village that best show its old fabric.

Visiting tips

  • These are historic buildings; be respectful inside and around them.
  • The best light for photos is early morning and towards sunset.
  • Wear comfortable shoes for the slope and stone paving.
  • Opening hours and restoration work can change; ask locally before you go.
