Walking is the best way to get to know Şirince. The route below takes in the village’s highlights in about two unhurried hours.

The route

  • Start at the square by the village entrance and walk up the bazaar lane.
  • From the top of the bazaar climb to the Church of St John the Baptist and look out over the rooftops.
  • Wander the back lanes around the church to see the bay windows and doors of the stone houses.
  • If you like, continue up the northern slope towards the Nesin Mathematics Village; the valley opens up along the way.
  • On the way back, stop for a coffee on the village square.

Photo tips

The stone façades look best in morning and late-afternoon light. Choose weekdays and early hours for shots without crowds. Ask before photographing people.

Bring

  • Comfortable, non-slip shoes
  • Water and a hat (especially in summer)
  • A light layer (it can get cool on the slopes)
