A day at Ephesus: route and tips
Start at the upper gate, walk down to Celsus, save the afternoon for Şirince.
To see Ephesus downhill, enter at the upper gate and follow Curetes Street to the Library of Celsus, then on to the Great Theatre and the lower gate. In heat and crowds, this order works best.
- Go in at opening time; cruise groups arrive towards noon.
- The Terrace Houses need a separate ticket and are worth it.
- In Selçuk, the Ephesus Museum, Temple of Artemis and İsa Bey Mosque are within walking distance of each other.
- Keep the late afternoon for Şirince, and catch the sunset at Pamucak on the way back.
Minibuses to Selçuk leave Şirince often; by car it takes about 20 minutes.
