A day in Şirince: route and tips
Arrive early, walk from the bazaar to the church, keep the afternoon for a wine house.
Şirince is a small village, but its steep lanes make it take longer than it looks. Leave your car at the car park by the village entrance; the centre is best on foot.
Morning
Beat the crowds with a village breakfast; gözleme and village cheese are the classics. Then walk up through the bazaar to the Church of St John the Baptist for the best view of the village.
Afternoon
Browse olive oil, soap and handicrafts in the bazaar, taste wines in a wine house and buy what you like. The back lanes between the stone houses are the best spots for photos.
- Wear comfortable shoes: the lanes are stone and steep.
- At weekends and on holidays the village gets very busy; come on a weekday if you can.
- If you have tasted wine, don’t drive; minibuses to Selçuk run often.
- If you stay overnight, book the guesthouses and boutique hotels in the stone houses ahead.
